Photos courtesy of SentimentoSome antique stores have a little magic in their mix. One such place, located in the Interior Design Building on East 61st, is saying goodbye. With the loss of Amy Perlin, it is sad to see another great shop in this building shutter.
Sentimento is closing after more than 30 years of selling the most elegant antique decorative accessories, lighting, mirrors objects, furniture and coveted pieces from the 18th century to the 20th centuries. Owner and founder the late Toby Landey and Barbara Kirshbaum traveled the world shopping for the store, and always had interesting architectural models, painted Italian pieces from the 1800's , incredible lighting and an assortment of decorative boxes on hand. I would always go in to browse and get loads of ideas-- the merchandising was done in beautiful and inspiring vignettes, often by color. Designers near and far will miss having Sentimento as a go to for inspiration anytime, but all is not lost.

Barbara is not letting any grass grow under her feet. She will be opening BK Antiques, her own showroom in the same building with all new, fresh inventory by early September. She has gone on 4 shopping trips already and has merchandise waiting to come in, so it will be ready. Visit Sentimento soon, and try not to get too sentimental.
