Vintage Fabrics: Batik

I have a little problem when it comes to this indigo fabric.. well I just cannot resist the beautiful details of each piece and how different they are.  (Please excuse the weird angle of the photo below).   I love these pieces with their intricate patterns and the soft hand of the fabric. The fabric pieces were made in China with a wax resist technique and each is unique, most of these pieces began as clothing and bedding and are now being re-purposed in all different ways.

As you can see I cannot resist the temptation with these pieces! Some of these will go up for sale, most are my personal collection, and I will be using some of the loose fabrics for upholstery projects that I have in the works.

While we were in LA for this quick little visit it was a beautiful day and the neighborhood was so pretty, so I snapped a few pictures.  I love how each house is so unique and full of character, this one was so cute!

intricate detail...

The detail is so amazing in this space.  I cannot even imagine in person how beautiful it must be!  I hope you are having a wonderful Tuesday!  Today I am so excited to visit a little vintage fabric pop up shop.  I cannot wait to share my finds with you.  I will admit that fabrics are one of my weaknesses, that along with books and purses and shoes, and clothes, and side tables... okay so I have a few weaknesses but fabric is at the top of the list- I suppose it could be worse right!?

Mary McDonald for Schumacher

While searching for fabrics a little while back for some clients I came across the new line of Mary McDonald pieces for Schumacher.  I fell instantly for the Chinois Palais collectionThe colors are beautiful and the touch of greige in each piece is perfection.  I put them into several fabric groupings for upcoming projects and I am just keeping my fingers crossed that we get to use them in some way soon!

SEEING: PATCHWORK PRISM KALEIDOSCOPE

Look, and you shall find. It only takes seeing something a few times to start to recognize it as a trend. That's what Suzy Slesin of Pointed Leaf Press, the brilliantly creative and effervescent former Editor and Chief at Oprah Home Magazine would say to me, and she's right.  In this case, I have been seeing this patchwork/prism/kaleidoscope pattern trend bubbling up. I like the fresh geometry to it, let's see if it evolves in a bigger way.

Dransfield and Ross always amazes with pillows galore, like this new patchwork shards prismatic pillow.

Perhaps blue is your hue? Deep blue velvet this time of year is, well, just right. Ikea's Stockholm Triangel Pillow does the job nicely.

megan megas at home..

So I know I have been changing it up a little around here with more and more chatting... but sometimes I think change is a good thing! (I hope you do too).  Anyway, I am going to chat this up because I simply love it.  I love the graphic pillow on the white sofa and I love the split wall with grey and creamy paint.  I love the lack of accessories and things.  This is pretty amazing.  I know it is not my home because my dog would knock that vase off of that little stool in about 5 minutes but I still love it.

This picture makes me wish I had not sold off my dining head chairs... humm.  I think I saw some yesterday and now I really want them back!

Santa Monica flea market

We spent the better part of the morning at the flea market on Sunday.  This was my first time to Santa Monica flea market and it was pretty successful as far as shopping.  It was a small group of vendors but there was a pretty good selection.  I found a lot of textiles and pillows which is always fine by me as those are a few of my favorite things!  We even had a few celebrity sitings which made for a fun morning.

This booth was from elements- he had some really great pieces and I had a chance to talk with him which was nice once we had circled the market twice.  I am looking forward to seeing him at Long Beach as he is expecting some pieces to come in from France in a week or so!

I was so close to buying this set of Lucite tables..  so fun!

I picked up a pillow with the embroidered dragons on it- love it!

 (please excuse the dumpsters)

I totally love this mix.  So fun for a girls room or beach house!

the pillows are from Indian Pink

We also discovered another small but really great flea market in Anaheim off of Lincoln and Lemon.  Some of the best finds of the day are from there!  Once I get a chance to go through all of my stuff I will have to share some things with you.

Finishing up..

Above is a grouping of fabrics and finishes that represent the way I typically start a project.  From here I will pull photos and ideas to see which direction to take it.  Once I have that done (sometimes it is the hardest part to find an image that conveys what I want the space to say) I work on the furniture layout and then onto the furnishings themselves.  The final step in my designing process is to put the fabrics and finishes on the proper pieces.  It takes a while to get from design to the finished product, but it is really nice to get there!

This project actually has a few more rooms but I did not like the way my photos looked so I had a limited selection!  If anyone knows of a good commercial photographer in Northern California I would love a good recommendation.

On a totally separate note my friend Molly Wood is having a One Kings Lane sale starting this morning!  Stop by and check out her goodies!
